Stephen Sondheim, world famous for composing Sweeney Todd and the text of West Side Story, turns 75 this year. The combination of mezzo soprano Monique Scholte and tenor Terence Mierau promises an evening of swinging performances of a selection of Sondheim's works. Canadian stage director Brent Krysa will also portray the more intimate atmosphere of Sondheim's songs through his staging. The program will be introduced by René Boogaard, one of Holland's foremost experts on the life and works of Sondheim. Just as the original arrangements, the accompaniment will be performed by two pianists.

Caspar Wintermans interviews Peter-Jan Wagemans

Peter-Jan Wagemans (1952), one of Holland's most famous present day composers, sees himself as an outspoken European composer responsible for developing and renewing European musical traditions. A composer who saw himself in a similar light was Franz Schreker (1878 – 1934). Wagemans greatly admired Schreker and even used his works as a source of inspiration for some of his compositions. In this program the ideas and lieder of both composers are heard together.
